Many photographers call their services "investments"...

And that's exactly what they are. You're giving your time and money for something that you hope will be worth more than what you paid. So are family photos worth your investment, and should you get them?

As a lifestyle photographer, I'm biased, of course 😊. Here are some of the reasons I think taking family portraits often are essential.

  1. The days are long, but the months (and years!) fly by. And if you have kids, they pass by exponentially faster. Family portraits capture points in time to help you remember those moments as your family grows.
  2. It's a way to celebrate a special occasion or milestone. There are birthdays, anniversaries, and new additions. But there are other milestones worth commemorating, too, like buying your first home or starting school. Photographs allow you to relive those special days.
  3. You can create a legacy through images. With photography and technology becoming more accessible, we'll be able to leave our children and grandchildren with so many images. Portraits are the perfect way to help tell your story and paint your legacy.
  4. The family photographer will be in the picture for once! Every family has a family photographer, either by choice or necessity. For many families, moms are the default photographer. Family portraits give the family photographer a chance to be in front of the lens instead of behind it.

Now don't hear me say, "invest in family portraits at any cost". But, if you have the means, I think family portraits are an important part of documenting your life story. My goal is to work closely with clients to suit their needs, and a part of that includes seeing if we're a good fit within their budget too.
